Stare Miasto (Old Town) / Warsaw, PolandThis very clever sign hanging over the door of an optician located just off the Market Square is typical of the character surrounding Old Town. The area, heavily destroyed during the bombing of Warsaw in World War II, has been reconstructed with an incredible sense of authenticity and attention to detail using every bit of architectural element that was salvageable from the remaining rubble. It has been placed on the UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites as "an outstanding example of a near-total reconstruction of a span of history covering the 13th to the 20th century".
