Auschwitz II - Birkenau / Auschwitz, PolandApproaching the Birkenau concentration camp, the most horrific of the three death camps located in Auschwitz, the division of the tracks perhaps conveys an element of choice. Sadly, any choice these innocent men, women and children had was removed long before they arrived here - their lives forever taken away. It is said that at least 960,000 Jews, 75,000 Poles, and some 19,000 gypsies were systematically exterminated at Birkenau.
